X235 To Hs. {Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} from BJ. Hydraulic Dampers - 20 HP. BJ2/E8/6/26 With reference to the standardisation sheet concerning 20 HP, hydraulic dampers, as the increase in cost will be £11.4.2 a car - a loss to the Company of over £5,000 a year, it seems desirable that we should go very carefully into the matter of whether these are absolutely essential on the 20 HP in view of the fact that we do not receive complaints of high speed wobbles and extremely few of low speed wobbles. Therefore, it remains for us to ascertain whether the springing etc. is so greatly improved as to warrant this great loss. Most people praise the springing of the 20 HP very highly and we have received practically no complaints. Therefore, we have to consider really why we are about to adopt the hydraulic dampers. I understand that neither PN {Mr Northey} nor CWB have had an opportunity of testing this car yet with this alteration but I understand they will shortly be testing it with the hydraulic damper and low pressure tyres. We shall then be in a better position to decide whether it is necessary. In the meantime I should be glad to have your views on the subject. BJ. | ||
