To BY. {R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} from DA. {Bernard Day - Chassis Design} c. to BJ. Hs. {Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} X.235. DA {Bernard Day - Chassis Design} 3/M8.6.26. HYDRAULIC SHOCK DAMPERS. Herewith we send N.sch.2209 shewing a modified form of shock damper which Mr. Royce wishes tried experimentally. The features of this damper are a portion of the strokes which is not damped, but in which there is an increased spring resistance and restricted air outlets at either end so that the relief valves can be in the centre of thepiston without fear of air locks. The operating lever and rocker lever connecting link with the rocker shaft and cover are existing, but there is a new body and a new piston. The fixings to the frame are the same as now except for a somewhat increased horizontal distance between the bolts which will require the pressed steel wing stay to be pushed further back.
