Bailey - Chief Engineer} EWT. for R.R. Inc. DOUBLE THRUST BEARING FOR REAR AXLE PINION. Mr. Olley pointed out some time ago that he considered when we used the Gleason Spiral Bevel Gears, it is necessary to have double thrust in the pinion. We have now proved by experiment that the double thrust is necessary. We have had a Gleason Bevel Axle running on 7CA for seven years and there is no sign of the thrust bearings giving any trouble. We certainly feel, however, that the double thrust bearing is right and that it would be safer to fit it. We have just erected the first set. We suggest this an alteration which might be put through immediately so in order to incorporate it, it means making some slight alterations in the very early operations on the propeller shaft and thrust housing. A standardisation sheet is being sent round. Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} RECEIVED | ||
