To BY.{R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} from Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} c. to Wor.{Arthur Wormald - General Works Manager} c. to Eft. c. to Ws. +8430 Hsl/LG28 .9.25. 40/50 CHASSIS - PHANTOM. X8430 X8940A The question of the .940 lead worm was discussed during our last visit to WW. At first R.{Sir Henry Royce} could not understand why the change could not be made immediately on the cars being produced. Finally, however, he agreed that it would have to run 10,000 miles before it could be adopted. We pointed out that we were not fitting the .940 nut to the car which we are sending to France. He agreed with this and pointed out that the .720 is the most important to get on to the cars. I informed him that the Works had stopped producing any more of the present type steerings and were busy producing the larger steering box etc. to suit the .720 worms. I also pointed out that as we had not tried experimentally a .940 worm, it would appear that we shall obtain standardisation for the .720 before the .940. R.{Sir Henry Royce} would not agree to sending another car specially to run 10,000 miles to test out the .940 worm. We shall be visiting WW. again at the end of this week. Could the Works supply us with the following information :- (1) Assuming that a standardisation sheet is completed for the .720 worm in four weeks time, what date will the first production car be built with this new steering? contd :- | ||
