X.5783do To Hm{Capt. W. Hallam - Head Repairs}/WW. from EFC. c. BY.{R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} EFC4/T8.3.28. 20 HP. DYNAMO EX CHASSIS GCK.76. -J.{Mr Johnson W.M.} BARTRAM- Answering your Hm{Capt. W. Hallam - Head Repairs}/WW5/EW7.3.28, you will be intested to know that we already have made up a 20 HP. dynamo armature with conductors half paralleled as referred to in our previous note, and we hope to be able to try this today or tomorrow. We anticipate that a machine otherwise standard, but fitted with this armature, will give a much higher output at the higher speeds which Mr. Bartram requires, but he will have to appreciate that it will be much later in the cutting in and therefore the arrangement would not be so suitable as the standard for low and moderate speed Town work. If we find this to give a suitable output curve we will then see BY.{R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} as to whether he would be agreeable to exchanging this customer's dynamo for one fitted with this special armature. I do not think we should immediately tell the customer of this proposal but merely say that we are looking into the question of supplying his special needs, i.e. until we have been able to try out the armature and obtain BY's consent to the change. The matter has been reported in general terms to Mr. Royce in our note EFC3/T27.2.28. Personally I consider the complaint a reasonably legitimate one and we are thinking round to discover same way in which the dynamo may be made (without loss of simplicity) to give a larger current at high speeds. It will be realised that normally we do not want to do this owing to the danger of overcharging, but if sometime later we are able to standardise our auto switch this objection would not then hold. We return the owner's letter and will let you know if any further developments. EFC. | ||
