24th. March, 1939.

Messrs. Borg & Beck Co.Ltd.,
Tachbrook Road,
Leamington Spa.

For the attention of Mr. Armitage.

Dear Sirs,

In confirmation of our 'phone call of this afternoon, we are sending you two 11" Long C.F. clutches.

We propose to use these on experimental engines having a torque of about 260 lbs/feet, and in order to provide the same working /u as that we find so satisfactory on other Long clutches you have supplied, we will require thrust springs of 150 - 160 lbs. (mean not less than 150 lbs).

Will you therefore please have two sets of suitable springs made up, painted a distinctive colour, and fitted to the two clutches sent to you.

With regard to transmitting this torque through an 11" clutch, it is only slightly above the maximum you recommended for an 11" B. & B. and as you know, the 10" B. & B. has for years been working satisfactorily on the Bentley with a greater over-load.

Our official order for this work will follow on your advising us of the cost.

Yours faithfully,

FOR ROLLS-ROYCE LTD.
