- 2 - W. A. {Mr Adams} Robotham, Esq. 27th November, 1934 of locknuts seizing on to the wheel centres due to differences in cone angles, high local loading and so forth, but I presume this is not your trouble. Your specific suggestions appear to be directed more towards facilitating wheel fitting than to wheel withdrawal or prevention of seizure, and in view of the quick wheel changes usually made one feels doubtful if modifications are necessary or wise. Fewer serrations involve higher specific loading, which on the face of it seems inadvisable. They have been used for wheel drives but I do not know that they proved superior to the type that we employ. Flat tops might be an improvement, and I am having a search made for some tests made many years ago. Centralising means appear to me to be entirely unnecessary with eight threads to the inch and a portion of the first thread removed. Twelve threads per inch are quite common on smaller size hubs - M.G. for instance - and no difficulty is experienced, We should not care to decrease the length of thread, so that a longer hub would be required to meet your suggestion, a feature that we have not found at all popular. Finally I must apologise for taking so long to reply to Contd.... | ||
