For the attention of C.H. Brooks Esq.

Dear Sirs,

We are again getting rather short of 3½" bore Bentley pistons and would like you to let us have three sets as soon as possible with the heat break sawcut in the scraper ring groove. This type of piston appears to be much better than the previous types of piston in regard to the cracking through the ring lands, but we noticed on one or two sets that small cracks develop in the webs at comparatively early stage of the endurance but they do not appear to get any worse with running.

We cannot say a great deal about the bedding of this type of piston as yet, since the only pistons we have had have been used for endurance running and of course under these conditions we do not get a fair indication of what the true bedding is like.

We have not yet run sufficiently long on the pistons that have been strengthened below the heat break sawcut to give you any information about them, they are on test at the moment.

We are forwarding the official order to you for the three sets of pistons through our Order Office.

Yours faithfully,

FOR ROLLS-ROYCE LIMITED.
