Coil temperature test with ballast resistance of 1 1/2 value old standard.
We have now conducted tests on the bench rig with the combination of std 22 gauge coil and 1 1/2 ballast to ascertain -
(1) The temperature attained by the coil left on contact on 12 volts for 3 hours continuously.
(2) The coil temperature after running for 6 hrs continuously at 17.5 volts in conjunction with a standard distributor running at 700 rpm.
The temperature measured in (1) was 57°C and in (2) 66°C the ambient temperature in each case
