X.4226. To R.{Sir Henry Royce} from Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} c. to CJ. c. to E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} c. to Da.{Bernard Day - Chassis Design} c. to BY.{R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}2/LG28.5.23. 20 HP. - TAPPET ADJUSTMENT. X.4226. When the cam is on the top of its lift, there is very little clearance before either the spring becomes choc-a-bloc or the valve washer on the top of the valve fouls the washer at the bottom which encloses the felt washer. After the first case of this trouble, the clear- ance was increased, and the Works now make certain that there is .040" minimum clearance. We recommend that as soon as convenient, we adopt the E.A.C. type of tappet adjustment on the 20 HP. This should prevent this trouble ever occurring. It would also enable us to make the tappet covers a more permanent and oil-tight job. Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} | ||
