EFC {E. Fowler Clarke - Electrical Engineer} 2/T. -2- Contd. became 25 volts or more. Thus in ordinary conditions of running it could never have come into action. (3) We found the cutout also to be a good deal late in being operated by its volt coil. (4) We criticise the regulator system from the point of view of the out contacts of the auxiliary relay switch being expected to divert a large load current from the series coil on the regulator core at the same time as the pressure between these contacts is being lightened by the rise of voltage operating on the auxiliary relay coil. The result is a tendency for the current regulation in the initial stages not to be effected properly, because with a lessening pressure on the auxiliary relay out contacts more and more current is diverted to the regulator series coil, and this means that more and more current has to flow (in the reverse direction) through the ordinary regulator current coil, to keep the magnetic traction operating the contact points to an equivalent value. The tendency therefore with the apparatus set correctly would be for the current regulation to be rather erratic. In spite of the inaccurate working due to the incorrect adjustments this effect was actually realised. It was arranged with your Mr. Burne that we remove the control unit from the machine and return it to you, and that you will send us in its place a control unit which you are quite satisfied is correct. We will then subject this to similar tests, and perhaps receive a better impression of the regulator than we have so far. With regard to the magneto, it was arranged with Mr. Burne that you would now send us, in view of the satisfactory results we had obtained with your AG6 magneto, both on bench and chassis tests, particulars of which were given verbally to your representative, one of your AM6 magnetos, after ascertaining that you are giving us all the Contd. | ||
