With reference to your memo Hd{Mr Hayward/Mr Huddy}/WW2/KW15.10.31.
In the first instance this customer complained of the "spitting" in silencer on the overrun. This was overcome with special carefully fitted throttle disc.

He then complained of explosions in silencer at the moment of opening throttle after "luffing". We have been able to definitely overcome this latter feature by using a throttle with positive opening with adjustable aperture, .5" dia. low speed choke and modified shape of low speed jet spindle which enables the low speed jet to be strengthened but not weakened off.

Up to the present we have not been able to overcome both the features the customer complains of.

With the scheme which prevents popping when opening up, we get a constant series of very subdued explosions when the silencer is hot, when over running.

It must be appreciated that this customer is asking for the elimination of a feature which is present on every one of our cars.

Hd.{Mr Hayward/Mr Huddy} tried the test car with the modification above referred to yesterday and in his opinion it would be no good offering this to the customer. Therefore it would seem that we have no alternative but to submit the matter to Sales and to admit that we cannot overcome the customer's complaint.
