COPY. THE HERBERT FROOD COMPANY, LTD., Sovereign Mills, CHAPEL-EN-LE-FRITH. HF{H. W. Frost - Coachwork Inspector}/EEL. 7th. January, 1919. Tuesday. Messrs. Rolls Royce, Ltd., Nightingale Road, DERBY. Dear Sirs, Since dictating our letter in acknowledgement of yours BY7/P311218, we have carried out some tests with our No. 9.L. and No. 9.C. - samples are enclosed herewith. The 2 pieces 1" square have been cut off from the larger pieces, and upon each of these we have put a pressure of 5 tons without effecting the slightest deflection. The larger pieces, from which the small ones were cut, have been boiled in oil for two hours at a temperature of 140 centigrade, and in order to try and disturb the fabric you will see that we drilled 6 holes. We are pleased to report that the boiling oil had no effect whatever, thus, we feel confident that our No. 9.L. will suit your requirements. No. 9.L. are laminations of Asbestos Canvas, which we can supply with or without wire. The sample contains no wire. No. 9.C. is not woven but merely crushed Asbestos. We shall be pleased to carry out any further tests required. We are, Yours obediently, THE HERBERT FROOD COMPANY LIMITED. (SGD). Herbert Frood. MANAGING DIRECTOR. | ||
