To BY.{R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} } FROM DA.{Bernard Day - Chassis Design} +52130 DA{Bernard Day - Chassis Design}3/M2.9.25. c. to CJ. 40/50 HP. & 20 HP. X. 8430 X. 5430 Mr. Royce wishes, as a modification for instant adoption, to use the existing steering boxes on both cars, modified in the following way in order to reduce the angle of thread on the worm, and so reuduce shocks on the steering wheel :- 40/50 - EXISTING BOX. Existing dia. of worm. Lead .940". No. of starts 4. (thickness to be taken equally off worm and not threads). No. of turns of wheel from full lock to full lock 2.25. 20 H.P. Existing box. Existing dia. of worm. Lead .825". No. of starts 3. (thickness removed equally off worm and nut threads). No. of turns from full lock to full lock 2.25. It is considered that it may not be safe to go to the big worm until we can have the damped pendulum lever, on account of low speed wobbles. DA.{Bernard Day - Chassis Design} | ||
