re PROGRAMME OF COOLING TESTS
ON RADIATORS AND SHUTTERS.
--------------------------

A set of fixed radiator shutters is available for 1RL and is to be fitted at the earliest possible moment. Tests will then be run as follows:-

1. Critical air temperature with existing shutters.

2. Idling curve to be run at the end of a full throttle test with existing shutters propped open.

3. Critical air temperatures with fixed shutters set in various angles to find an angle which will give satisfactory cooling of the car. This is then to be considered from an appearance point of view and it is also suggested that tests be carried out by the Carburetter people to see whether troubles already experienced on other cars are encountered.

4. Chromium plated shell with lightened shutters has been ordered from John Marstons for some weeks. As soon as this is available it will be fitted up and tests carried out to see whether or not light shutters give any trouble due to rattling. The chromium shell will then be left on the car to investigate its wearing and weathering properties.

5. As soon as radiators become available tests are to be carried out comparing Marstons, Serck, Searle and Morris radiators.

6. RADIATORS. HEATERS.

1. Comparative rig and road tests are to be carried out on the latest R-R.2. radiators. Heaters.

2. A Smith heater as received from the makers is to be fitted to 9.B.5.

3. A Smith heater is to be fitted to Phantom III going to America.
