re. 40/50 HP. Four Wheel Brake Cars.

The following are further points for consideration in regard to the above.

1. SILENCER
We consider the exhaust to be noiser than on the old standard 40/50 chassis. Even the old 40/50 exhaust was not as quiet as we should have liked, and we are afraid the increased noisiness of the exhaust on the "U" series chassis will be a cause of complaint from customers.

2. Dynamo & Magneto Drive.
We are having a fair amount of trouble on test with rattle from the dynamo and magneto drive. This is a matter which has had our attention during the holiday, and we are definitely of the opinion that more damping of the spring drive in the crank pinion is required. We shall be glad if Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} and By.{R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} will give this consideration. In the meantime, we are making the best of the cars be reducing the end play of the magneto shaft to a minimum, but we are afraid this will not be of lasting effect.
More damping of the spring drive is also of great help in overcoming the 'bus knock' which we have been in trouble with for some time.

3. Oil on Front Brakes.
We have experienced trouble with the front brakes owing to oil getting on them from the pivots which has rendered the rear brakes ineffective. It is possible that this may have been caused by excessive initial oiling. As far as we are concerned we are taking steps to see that when initially oiled the excess oil does not get on to the brakes. We bring this point forward as there is a possibility that a similar thing may occur in service.

4. Front Wheel Hubs.
Owing principally to the variations in the Dunlop Hubs, there is insufficient clearance between the hub shell and the bolt heads on the front brake drums. This matter has already been
