'SS{S. Smith}' - S E C R E T.

We have carried out tests by leaving the SS.{S. Smith} cars out all night in 10° to 15° of frost and find that for starting and getting away, using Shell Mex which is a low grade fuel, they are quite satisfactory.

Comparative tests made with the standard Phantom arranged with water heating shews the SS.{S. Smith} to be very much better. It has therefore been arranged that the connection for exhaust heating shall be deleted on the production engines.

We will arrange a temporary scheme as suggested by you of restricting the water flow when the shutters are closed. This would appear to be the simplest way of warming the engine up more quickly.
