| -2- information is obtainable from each unit, and radical development is absolutely impossible. Furthermore, effective endurance testing is often beyond the capabilities of the rig itself, and in order to obtain essential and reliable data, new apparatus is required and existing equipment must be overhauled. Apart from this, the conditions of lighting, heating and wiring, in the present shop are deplorable, and attention to wiring in particular is a vital necessity from the point of view of personal safety. In view of the fact that arrangements for the transfer of the Bearing Section are almost completed, it may be considered that our request for additional equipment comes late in the day. Actually, the greater part of this equipment was requested some twelve months ago, and, we understand, sanctioned by Wor.{Arthur Wormald - General Works Manager} but to date we have received only one or two minor items, and the bulk of the units referred to are still urgently required. The attached plan has been drawn up in order to shew the proposed layout of the Rig Testing Dept. when additional space and equipment is available. Some of this equipment already exists but a good deal of new apparatus is required in order to permit of reorganisation of the section on the lines indicated. We give below briefly, the proposed specification of each rig and append hereto for your approval, a summary of the new equipment which will be required.
