83806. R.{Sir Henry Royce} From HS{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer} (In U.S.A.) c. to EG. Mor. c. to Rs.{Sir Henry Royce's Secretary} E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} c. to DA.{Bernard Day - Chassis Design} My. March 9th, 1932. I spent today with the Bijur Lubrication Company. Rubber Connections To The Axles. In view of the failures we have had with the brass pipe and the certain amount of complication connected therewith I was particularly interested in these. They have about 200,000 in service. They spoke as if they had had few if any failures. They took a hose off one of their best cars that had been on three years and done 30,000 miles. It was quite sound externally. We tested it for flow, it has a felt filter in it to prevent any rubber getting to the drip plugs. The flow free was definitely less than that of a similar new hose, but when coupled to the drip plugs that it might reasonably be supposed to feed, these plugs delivered a normal amount i.e. the flow was so much slower that the partial choking of the felt filter was of no account. We cut the hose open to see the state of the oil resisting rubber core. It certainly had not resisted 100%, but considering that rubber must have improved during the last three years it was encouraging. I am bringing a sample back with me of this particular hose. Its construction is much the same as the Lockheed hose. Automatic Induction Pipe Operation. We discussed the pro's and cons of the system running on Mor's car. Briefly, if you can rely on the driver operating the manual system say as often as he is supposed to, this is definitely superior. Drip Plugs Choking etc. They are going to query Luvax'es felt. They definitely, however, do not like a compound oil such as "Prices", with soap in it, for use in the Bijur pump. Bijur Tank & Crank Case Filler Combined. They gave me some information on the disadvantages of this arrangement. HS{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer} | ||
