Martindale DATE 21st May 1937. File Why do we want to make the wedge. On the rest they have no patent I believe Am Messrs. Rolls Royce Ltd., D E R B Y . Dear Sirs, For the attention of Mr. Martindale. Confirming the visit of Mr. Girling and the writer to you on Wednesday last and Mr. Martindale's statement that you had in mind a wedge operating brake mechanism, adjustment to be in the wedge unit, but that you would like to make this yourselves, the writer has gone into this very thoroughly and, very frankly, we have never allowed anyone to make any part of the GIRLING Braking System before, but as the job you have in mind is entirely different from our standard production and we know that you would make the parts exceptionally well, the writer feels his Board would receive favourably the suggestion that we grant you a licence to make these parts on a Royalty basis of, say £2 per car. This would then allow you to make everything yourselves and the whole job would be entirely in your own hands. No doubt you will look into this and advise us at the earliest convenience your decision. With many thanks. Yours faithfully, for NEW HUDSON LTD., Alex Fraser MANAGER. | ||
