X7060 To Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} from Sg.{Arthur F. Sidgreaves - MD} Copy to Her. Sg{Arthur F. Sidgreaves - MD}8/E13.4.34 I had a visit yesterday from Major Halford. He really came, as far as I could make out, to get my personal advice as to how to launch on the market his patent hydraulic self-adjusting valve tappet. He gave me to understand that he had recently heard from you that our tests of it looked like beingx showing up satisfactorily. I could not quite make this out as I know the one on 28-EX is a dud and from what Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer} had told me the day before, I understood that the one we were really interested in was an American onfe. Halford, not unnaturally, has a very good opinion of his and says that it has a world-wide application for both motor-cars and aero engines but I of course know nothing about it. I rather believe he had in mind that we might be interested to the extent of buying the patent outright from him and becoming the parent firm of it, i.e. granting sub-licenses to others, but I told him that this was not our line of business.
