We have had a bad oil leak coming from under the valve operating gear cover plates situated in the "V". Latterly this has been getting worse. We have therefore, investigated the cause, which necessitated the removal of Induction pipe complete with carburetters, coils and wiring tubes. It was found that the forward end of the front cover plate was being held off the jointing by .025". One of the three 2 B.A. studs which secure the coil turret had been screwed through the plate too far and was standing proud, consequently, when the plates were screwed down, the protruding stud did not allow the plate to seat properly. We also found the cheese headed cover screws loose; some of them being only finger tight. One or two of the steel insertions in the block were found to be standing just proud, preventing the cover from making a perfect joint. We enclose a sketch illustrating what has happened. The car has been held up and half a day spent on curing this trouble, which could have been avoided during the construction of the engine.
