ROLLS ROYCE CLIP.

You have at the moment, at the Works, one pair of springs fitted with the Rolls Royce clip. Since K.{Mr Kilner} will not make a decision in regard to the form of clip until springs fitted with the Rolls Royce type clip have been definitely run on the bumping machine for a prolonged period, it is necessary that a pair of springs available should be put on the bumper without delay.

In addition to the foregoing, a further question is of course under consideration, namely, whether we should replace Chrome Vanadium, which is our standard material at the moment, by Silico Manganese. In order to get this matter settled, we have on order four more pairs of Chrome Vanadium springs to be fitted with Rolls Royce Clips, and six pairs of similar springs produced in Silico Manganese steel instead of Chrome Vanadium. Our idea was that we should fit alternately Silico Manganese and Chrome Vanadium springs to each side of the car, both on the bumper and on road test, so that we shall get an exact comparison under running conditions as well as on the bumper, of the behaviour of springs made in Silico Manganese steel.

We are of course not expecting an early settlement of the question of the material, but we do expect a very early settlement of the question of the type of clip, as this is absolutely essential to enable us to take Messrs Firths out of the hands of Messrs Woodheads in regard to the form of plates and the use of the Woodhead clip.
