RE 3 PER. 11.

The car ran yesterday afternoon and this morning.

We are still losing oil from the front when braking. We are further raising the height of the weirs to prevent this. The hydraulic dampers after tightening up the bolts, do not appear to be leaking oil. The petrol consumption is on the poor side, but up to the present we have not altered the settings as we received the carburetter from Mathews. The tappets are noisy with a .002 and .004 clearance. We have tried to cure the oil release unit, but so far have not obtained any definite results.

RE GEARBOX.

Will you please inform us whether Grylls has given any definite quantity of oil for the gearbox. Upon our arrival here we had lost 1 1/2 pints of oil, i.e. 2 1/2 pints had been put in at Derby. We have again lost a quarter of a pint in 250 miles. We are looking into the height ourselves, but want to know if anything definite has been arrived at.

G.W.H.

ENGINE.

We find that it is necessary to raise the height of the weirs 1.000 to prevent oil going over the top when braking. This is the maximum height we can go to clear the crankshaft bearing. The amount of oil in the bottom half for these tests is 1.250 gallons.
