To BY.{R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} c. Mr. E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} RHC.{R. H. Coverley - Production Engineer} X237 Da.{Bernard Day - Chassis Design}3/HP.20.9.33. Bensport Needle Bearing Universal Joints. With further reference to N. Sch. 3827, it will be noted that we have called for a circumferential clearance of .010". Experimental Department report that it is probable that this is too much, at any rate with a dry bearing, and the rollers tend to crosswind and stick. We, therefore, suggest that the circumferential clearance should in the first case be reduced to .005". This is done by a slight reduction in the diameter of the inside and outside races.
