COPY. BY.{R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} BY/HEB{H. Biraben}10/M.28.2.28. SHAPE OF SIDE STEERING TUBES. The procedure at present is that the shape of the Side steering Tube is the last point settled, and this shape depends upon clearing various parts of the chassis, and has to allow for Works' variations. Should this not be reversed, and the shape of the Tube decided on, the Tube being straight if possible and the parts designed or modified to clear the Side Steering Tube. By this method we should always have a good Side Steering Tube and not have to bend this to suit other fittings. Although we are making careful Lay-Outs to get the best shape of Side Steering Tube, any changes in the length of the Pendulum Lever etc., modifies the shape of the Tube. On new design chassis work, if W.W. watched this point and endeavoured to fix the shape of the Tube before certain other parts, we should not get these unsightly tubes. BY/HEB{H. Biraben}, | ||
