X8830 HS{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} To R.{Sir Henry Royce} from BJ Copy to DA{Bernard Day - Chassis Design}/EV{Ivan Evernden - coachwork} Copy to Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} SECRET. BJ7/E27.1.28 Super-Sports Car. With reference to DA{Bernard Day - Chassis Design}/EV{Ivan Evernden - coachwork}1/M21.1.28, suggesting that a body might be prepared for the above chassis and that it was contemplated to produce this chassis in the first place for sporting purposes, my impression is that we are to bring out this car as standard first, and then develop it later possibly for sport purposes. The bodies required for testing it as a standard car presumably should be two or three of our usual standard shapes and weights, at least two closed and one open. Great care must be taken not to convey any information to coachbuilders which might indicate that we are about to produce a new chassis, and as presumably a sub-frame will be used on this model and the whole chassis will require a different shape of body, and it will be very difficult to obtain sample bodies from coachbuilders without giving them some hint that we may produce a new chassis. I would suggest, therefore, that no communication or drawing should be sent to a coachbuilder except through Sg.{Arthur F. Sidgreaves - MD} BJ. | ||
