FAULTY C.A.V. VOLTAGE REGULATORS ON CUSTOMER'S CHASSIS.

One of Messrs.C.A.V's technical representatives visited us yesterday to inspect several faulty regulators which have been removed from customers cars (Bentley and 40/50).

Two of the regulators had very bad pitting on the second pair of contacts which caused the regulator to fail completely. The other four regulators were sluggish in operation causing the dynamo current to rise abnormally resulting in the main dynamo fuse melting.

The sluggish operation was traced to the first pair of contacts slightly welding together.

Messrs.C.A.V. representative considered that these regulators had failed due to faulty adjustment initially but at the same time he stated that he considered our dynamo field current was on the high side for satisfactory operation of their regulators.

We pointed out to him however that we were working to the current limits originally agreed to by themselves and also that this regulator trouble did not exist on the first regulators we obtained from them.

It was arranged therefore that he should take these faulty regulators back to Messrs.C.A.V. for a full investigation to be carried out and as a result of that investigation we asked them to advise us whether they would recommend an increase in our dynamo field resistance.

Will N. and K.{Mr Kilner} please advise us regarding any further trouble experienced in this direction.

Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Wat.
