γ 6093. Roy{Sir Henry Royce}/MS. From Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/Wst. Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/Wst.1/MJ.7.11.36. Replying to Roy{Sir Henry Royce}/MS.13/P.5.11.36. We have abandoned any further testing with carbon brushes sent to us by British Carbons Ltd. in view of the fact that we found that their technical administration was appalling and in fact we knew more about brushes than they did themselves, judging by the conversation we had with their representative. Furthermore we understand that the carbon brushes they supplied to us were not of entirely British manufacture and were brushes of re-manufactured designs - i.e. old brushes ground up and re-fused. Furthermore, we did not get any real success with any of their brushes, they were much too hard. At the moment we are devoting all our attention on experimental brushes to the products of Messrs. Morgan Crucible Co. and Le Carbone, as these two firms are backed by a well equipped Research Section and are able to give us the brushes we require. Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/H.E.West.
