STANTON IGNITION CONTROL - Sec. 5150

In connection with this note please see your copy of my note to Rg.{Mr Rowledge} of Jan. 27, and my note to R.{Sir Henry Royce} c-Sg.{Arthur F. Sidgreaves - MD} of May 22/29 with attached prints L-315, SK-324/5/6. Also L-343, the layout of ignition control applied to PI handed you in Nov. last.

I attach a print of a new form of the device formerly indicated in SK-325 and now being developed by the Marvel Carburetter Co. for use in conjunction with their carburetters and the Stanton carburation control.

This device uses two piston valves instead of poppet valves and is so arranged that the lower piston tends to pump air (with some oil vapor) from the crankcase back into the engine cylinder.

This protects the advance mechanism from high temperatures and from any possibility of trouble due to condensate in the combustion gases, which actually do not enter the advance cylinder.

Too much attention should not be paid to the details of construction which are designed only for the ultimate cheapness in production.

The plungers are 5/16" dia. x 3/4" stroke. The ports in the upper plunger are .020 wide x .080 long, spaced .193 apart.

The pressure samples are taken when the upper plunger is moving to the left at max. velocity and the effect is therefore to take two samples each of about 12° duration at two points in the firing cycle 60° apart.
