By.{R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} from EFC. c. Sft{Mr Swift}/Mr Brock. X8712. EFC2/ADL7.9.30. X.8712. ENAMELLED COPPER WIRE FOR IGNITION COIL SECONDARY WINDINGS. We have now completed some comparative laboratory tests on several samples of ignition coil secondary wire (42 SWG) obtained from five different sources, for instance, Mc Leods, U.S.A. from Dudlos, British wire from B.I. Cables Ltd. Concordia's and Connolly's. The tests were carried out in accordance with our specification of test for this kind of wire, copy of which we attach for your information. The results of the test as reported to me by my assistant are as follows :- (1) Chemical tests. (a) Immersion in a 20% solution of Na{Mr Nadin} OH for five hours. McLeod (Swiss) - negligible effect. Dudlo (U.S.A.) - enamel attacked and could easily be scraped off with finger nails. Prescot - negligible effect. Concordia - " " Connolly - " " (b) Immersion in a 20% solution of H2 SO4 for five hours. All samples shewed negligible effect with the exception of the Prescot sample which appeared to have been attacked slightly. | ||
