Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}1/KT.26.1.33.

Dear Sr.

Thank you for your Sr/DnI/ET.19.1.33.

I send you herewith a drawing of the new silencer, so that you can make one up. A point to note is that the baffles should be .020 - .030" clear on the outside diameter. If this clearance is too little, the silencer will click when cooling due to expansion causing the baffles to slide against the wall of the silencer, if too big the clearance will interfere with the resonance characteristics of the system.

The way of hanging it up is, of course, nothing to do with the efficiency, merely to eliminate the sliding joint on new cars.

Give Hm.{Capt. W. Hallam - Head Repairs} my best wishes for a speedy recovery.

Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}
