Properties and potential use of paper-covered copper wires as an alternative to cotton-covered wires.

| X802. EFC. BY/RD4/W.28-8-30. Re :- Paper-covered Wires. We have received samples of Copper Wire which has been paper-covered instead of the usual cotton covering. These wires can be :- Double paper-covered. Single paper-cover, and Single paper-and-silk covered. and the Makers say that the paper-covered wire is superior to cotton in the following respects :- (1) Insulation Resistance. (2) Dielectric strength. (3) Hygroscopic properties. (4) Specific inductive capacity., and it is equal to cotton-covered in :- (1) Ageing properties (Resistance of high temperatures) (2) Thermal conductivity. We are sending you the samples as at the moment we are not interested enough from a Production point of view, but you might like to examine them, as we should not propose using them until this class of wire was more generally known, as we do not feel that we are justified in being pioneers in the use of this class of insulation.
