To Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} from GWH.{George W. Hancock - Head Chateauroux}

Lillie Hall.
18.11.36.

The position assigned to me is supervising the 10,000 miles tests in England and France, investigation of owners' complaints and giving advice as far as possible to the Paris, Kingsbury and Cricklewood Depots.

The complaint cases are numerous and the work entailed is considerable. Reports are issued to the Experimental Department D.O. The faults reported I follow up and endeavour to get the modifications through so as to lessen the complaints. My work is also to prevent if possible costly methods in dealing with repairs, such as the recent ruling at Kingsbury. Here cylinders were being rebored after a wear of .006" to .008" whether there was a complaint of overoiling or not. This has been increased to .008" and left to the discretion of Kingsbury whether the re-bore is necessary. Again Kingsbury had no option but to send cylinders to the Works for re-grind. A ruling has been obtained cutting this out allowing Kingsbury to do their own. This means a definite saving to the Company.

A recent case of control springs suddenly starting to break was checked and stopped by reports to By.{R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} and his investigations.

All the faults either design or otherwise which arise as complaints are being reported.

G.W.Hancock.
