The make of the car competes, not such and such a manufacturer's model.

The Managing director or the Head of the firm entering one or more cars must, on entering, sign the following declaration on his honour :

" I, the undersigned, do declare on my honour that the vehicle (or vehicles) entered in the 16th. 24 hour Reliability Grand Prix, the biennial Cups and the 2nd. annual Cup has (or have) been sold, manufactured or stocked to the extent of a minimum of 30 replicas prior to signing the present declaration. "

Should the competitor who has signed the said declaration not be personally present at the checking and weighing-in operations, he can only be validly represented by a person accredited by a letter signed by the managing director or the head of the firm.

2. - In the case of private entries :

The individual competes with the standard vehicle or vehicles of the make or makes he may choose.

When entering in accordance with the provisions of articles 35 and 36, there will be no obligation to declare the make and type of car; such declaration must be made, however, at latest on the 20th. May 1939 at 6 p.m. failing which the entry will be cancelled, the entry fee being forfeited to the Automobile-Club de l'Ouest.

Private individuals qualified to compete in 1939 in the final of the 14th. Biennial Cup may enter such car or cars of the makes and types they may choose for this event.

QUALIFICATIONS

Art. 5. - Vehicles fitted with an internal combustion engine complying with the special conditions stipulated in the present regulations will be admitted.

Engines fitted with a supercharging device of any kind will likewise be admitted in compliance with the regulations of the I.A.R.A.C., these are the definitions of 4 cycle and 2 cycle engines with or without supercharging :

Un-supercharged 4 cycle engine :

A 4 cycle automobile engine, in which the piston travel is equal in both directions, is said to be un-supercharged when only the depression set up by the travel of the driving pistons (or pistons) causes the introduction into the cylinders (or cylinders) of the air or gaseous mixture intended for combustion.

N.B.- The use of a nozzle admitting the surrounding air direct is not considered as a supercharging device.

Supercharged 4 cycle engine :

A 4 cycle engine is said to be supercharged when the introduction of the air or gaseous mixture intended for combustion is caused by means other than the depression set up by the travel of the driving piston (or pistons).

2 cycle engine :

A 2 cycle engine is an engine in which each cylinder provides one power explosion per revolution.
