Copy of letter from:- The Associated Equipment Co., Ltd. SOUTHALL. Middx. 17th September, 1937. Ref.GDR/MJ. To:- W.C.Devereux, Esq., High Duty Alloys Ltd. SLOUGH. Bucks. Dear Mr. Devereux, I am in receipt of your letter of the 15th instant and note the most interesting visit you have paid to Germany. I shall be very glad to hear further about this later. With regard to the question of aluminium bearings, I have discussed this with Mr. Rackham, and he rather feels as I do, that having so many irons in the fire at the present moment and the results to date, although the time is comparatively short we feel that a delayed policy - until final results are available - would be preferable. Please do not take this as meaning we are not interested in your new bearing material, but as I understand when I saw your Mr. Herrington yesterday, that this material has not yet been tried in oil engines, we rather feel it is a line of future development and as soon as we see any opportunity of testing this material out in an engine in our experimental Department, I will let you know. Incidentally, you may not already know, but we did try one of our oil engines with R.R.56 bearings on the standard soft shafts brinell hardness 255 - 302 and immediate seizure took place, but in view of this experience, do you consider that the new bearing alloy will show up any better than the R.R.56? With kind regards, Yours sincerely, signed:- G.D.ROBINSON. CHIEF DESIGNER. | ||
