X 4215 To FHC. from EFC {E. Fowler Clarke - Electrical Engineer} , EFCl/T23.10.22. X.4215 - BLERIOT PHI CUTOUT FOR R. {Sir Henry Royce} WOUND FOR 24 VOLTS. Herewith we are handing you back the parts of the Bleriot phi cutout having unwound the coils and determined the particulars of the new wires required. The series coil we have left on - this not requiring any alteration. The main shunt coil should be wound next above the direction of winding being according to the scheme attached, this and will consist of as many turns as can be conveniently got on with the necessary insulation, of No.38 S.W.G. S.S.C. It is not necessary to specify the number of turns or layers as the size of the wire alone determines the ampere turns produced at a given voltage, but these ampere turns are produced with the minimum expenditure of energy, the greater the number of turns that can be got into the space. It will be necessary to leave at the top a space of one layer for the resistance winding which should consist of a number of feet to be determined (see below) of resistance wire. Will you kindly note that this resistance winding is to be wound in opposition to the main shunt coil, i.e. at the point where the end of the main shunt coil is taken out, one end of this resistance wire is joined and the winding is continued with the resistance wire in the opposite direction. For your convenience we attach copy of the scheme of windings of this instrument. Contd. | ||
