re BENTLEY CHASSIS Having now tested the first 15 chassis (open test kit) we have noted the following features which we consider require attention. As the chassis when fitted with bodies are to be returned to the Works for modifications, it is possible you may wish to embody further modifications to deal with these matters if not already covered by the already proposed modifications. (1) Engine gears rattle light running and pick up; also engine gears sing (also refer Mr.Elliot's report).(E.13/HP.2.8.33) (2) Pronounced "whistle" periods between 2800 R.P.M. and 4000 R.P.M. This varies in intensity on different cars, but is a general weakness (understand due to starter gear on flywheel). (3) The horn button is too low and cannot easily be actuated, in fact is considered dangerous and may easily be "missed" on emergency. (4) Carburetters. The jets which give correct high speed power seem to be rather on the weak side for acceleration from slow engine speeds (see report reference EP{G. Eric Platford - Chief Quality Engineer}20/7.8.33). The slow running is not very good and some improvement is desirable, and we understand is possible. This irregular running also shows up rather objectionable "chunking" in the drive. We have had one or two cases of float feeds developing flooding. (5) The engine eventually boils if allowed to idle too long when the car is standing. (6) Oil pressure fails when excessive braking is used. (7) Bonnet clips rather awkward to handle; the handle prongs are considered too sharp - more so when wings fitted. | ||
