6.B.IV - BENTLEY.
UNIT NO. B.24.

Small induction pipes and carburettors.

It is not possible to use these as the sparking plug position in conjunction with the increased inlet ports has necessitated using three stud flanges in place of two stud as previously standard.

H.P. Scraper rings.

It was the high pressure compression rings which gave distortion trouble on Wraith. This engine has standard compression rings. The H.P. Scraper rings have given no trouble and are considered satisfactory.

Throttle spring.

A spring has been rigged up working in the opposite direction to the present spring so as to reduce the loading of the throttle spindle bearings.

It was also found that there was insufficient end float for the coupling piece which caused stiffness of the throttles.

Clutch adjustment.

The pedal has been set 1 1/8" closer to the floorboards and the free travel reduced from 3/4" to 3/8". This actually cuts down the useful travel by 3/4". The separation is still sufficient and the pedal is now much more pleasant to operate.

With these modifications to the throttles and clutch the take-up is improved and we can get no stalling.

Brakes.

The servo output was checked and found to be well up to standard.

The previous front equalizer shaft was replaced which gave a little more front braking, but not as much as before,
