J 1020. To By/EM. & Hl. from Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/Swdl.{Len H. Swindell} c. to HPS.{Horace Percy Smith - Experimental Factory Mgr} Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/Swdl.{Len H. Swindell}8/AP.14.1.37. BEARINGS As there appears to be some discrepancy over the supposed RR.56. material which has been used in the making of our Experimental bearings, and which is not to specification, will you please order sufficient material to make say a dozen sets of bearings. The material should conform exactly to the specifi-cation of RR.56., unless this is so then any tests which we may carry out are simply wasted and give misleading results. When bearings or other parts are ordered in a special material an analysis of the actual material from which the parts are made should be taken and conform with the given specification, likewise the heat treatment etc. Records should be kept so that at any time we can see exactly what the material analysis is of any particular bearings in any engine - or has been. Only in this manner can we test any material with confidence. Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/Swdl.{Len H. Swindell} | ||
