RE GAUGE LAMP FOR 40/50 H.P. CHASSIS.
N. SCHEME 592.

Referring to the above, would you kindly note that Mr. Royce does not think we shall get a satisfactory design by using standard miniature lamp fittings and lampholder plugs which are very poor fittings. He would like a fresh drawing made in which all the pieces are specially suited for the purpose intended. The arrangement he indicates is somewhat as follows:-

THE SKETCH IS NOT
INTENDED TO BE THE LAST
WORD AS REGARDS THE
METHOD OF MAKING THE CASE.

A pair of brass elements each containing a central spring and contact plunger at each end are imprisoned between two earthenware insulators and confined in a metal case which has a bayonet pocket at each end for lamp and plug connector. The case is held together by a union nut and the various pieces are located in their correct rotational position by grooves engaging with keyways pressed or otherwise formed in the casing.

E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer}

A plug connection for the rear of the above fitting should be designed for the job, and should not use any but fire-proof insulation, in accordance with Mr. Royce's wishes.

Mr Royce would like the lamp cowling to be attached with a union nut, so that it will always come in the correct position, and further, he would like to see illustrations shewing the gauge lamp in position on the instrument board, so that it shall be known whether the lamp can be got in to the best position for illuminating the gauges, and what alterations will be necessary, if any, to the arrangement of the instruments.

E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer}
