Mr Spinney. 20/12/11

Re Heat in Front Seats.

Mr Platford reported that he had been testing the scheme suggested by Mr Spinney, in which the hot air from the engine was carried away without passing under the floor board. The results he had obtained were very satisfactory.
The average rise in temperature immediately under the floor boards on our standard chassis on a long run, was 48 degrees C., while the rise obtained with the new scheme as fitted was only 19deg. C. The scheme as fitted was rough, but it showed great promise of success.

The Committee agreed that Mr Spinney should go into this question of design of this arrangement for fitting to our standard chassis.

Mr Nadin read a suggestion from Mr Swetnam concerning the same subject, in which it was proposed to cut louvres in the engine guard.

The Committee agreed that this was not altogether desirable, owing to the difficulty of keeping mus and water entering from these suggested louvres.

Mr Nadin suggested in order to enable the warmth in the front seats to be adjusted, that large adjustable ventilators or doors should be fitted in the partition between the engine and the space under the floor boards.
