With reference to BY/CGH{W Clough}8/G81030., and the arrangement of the instrument board for N. 2. series - D72857. sheets/1. and 2 - we have looked into your remarks.

The arrangement of the instrument board shewn here was got out by yourselves expressly for use on the American chassis, all of which are E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} column. We sympathise, and join in your wish to use the same board on the English chassis but we have always realised that this board would be more or less impossible with/anything else than the E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} and F.{Mr Friese} steering. We therefore suggest that there are 4 courses open to us -

(1) To use the arrangement on D72857. on E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} and F.{Mr Friese} only and to displace the switchbox to the right of the column in the case of C. and D.{John DeLooze - Company Secretary} On some D.{John DeLooze - Company Secretary} cars the switchbox might be inserted in its correct position over the column if the scuttle happened to have a slight upsweep, but on no C. cars would it be possible.

(2) To do (1) and at the same time displace the patch containing the gauge, magneto switch, and pump, to the left to match up with the switchbox.

(3) An alternative again would be to use the arrangement D72857. on E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} and F.{Mr Friese} columns, and on C. and D.{John DeLooze - Company Secretary} to have a separate arrangement and separate instruments like we now use as standard on all our P. 2. cars.

(4) Finally there is the alternative of not using the arrangement on D72857. at all for England, but keeping it for American cars as originally designed.

Of these suggestions we prefer either (1) or (2), and we think that on the instrument board the switch might be shewn dotted on the R.H. side of the column with a note in the case of C. steering and some D.{John DeLooze - Company Secretary} steerings "it will be necessary to put the switch in this position", and with a note against the patch containing the petrol gauge etc, "if the switch is on the right hand side of the column we suggest that if it is desired this instrument may be moved out to match "the switch and the locker deleted."

EV.{Ivan Evernden - coachwork} will make a point of seeing Sales during his next visit to London to obtain their views, and will communicate them to you.
