/1256 EXPERIMENTAL DEPARTMENT. Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/CTS.{C. Trot Salt - Carburation}14/ET. 5th November, 1940. The Light Production Co. Ltd., 60/66, Rochester Row, Westminster, S.W. 1. Dear Sirs, Confirming the writers conversation with your Mr. Riley today, certain points were settled in accordance with your letter CHB/BKW. Regarding the 3.250" bore pistons, we appreciate that, as these were produced from a sand core, the sections and internal radii will be on the heavy side. Also, the fact that we have a different ring arrangement will make a small extra contribution, and finally the amount left on for grinding would probably make up the balance. We understand that if we think in terms of die-castings for the future, the above points would be taken care of, covering the difference in weight between the two pistons submitted to you. It was agreed therefore that it would be useful to have a go at producing a lighter piston, by rubbing down the sand cores, for the purpose of getting such pistons into a car. We would like to do this as it would serve two purposes: a.{Mr Adams} To take advantage of mileages being done on transport work on our development cars. b. Fully justify a lighter piston being produced from a die. We would be much obliged, therefore, if you would produce say 7 pistons to fulfill this purpose. Concerning the 2.50" piston, we gather that, from pistons "on the shelf", you have nothing which would make the dimension of our gudgeon pin to crown. | ||
