C O P Y. ----- C. (Sales) from Wd.{Mr Wood/Mr Whitehead} Wd{Mr Wood/Mr Whitehead}12/NJ1.6.21. Dunlop Straight-side Tyres. Yesterday I had occasion to visit the Dunlop Rubber Co's Head Office at Aston Cross, Birmingham. While there Mr Blake the Manager of Sales Dept informed me that the Dunlop Co are now manufacturing straight-side tyres in commercial quantities and supplies are available at their various depots throughout the country and it is not expected that in the future there will be any shortage in supply. The Dunlop Co are undoubtedly expecting to do a very big business in these tyres and asked me to say when it was our intention to offer same as standard. I pointed out that the tyres of this type which we have tested were not manufactured commercially, but experimentlly, whereupon Mr Blake offered to send us gratis a set of tyres which have been produced commercially, which he is confident we shall find very superior to those made experimentally. This offer has been submitted to our Experimental Dept. and Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} has agreed to test out this set of tyre; therefore, I have requested the Dunlop Co. to send them here as soon as possible. I think it probable that Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} will be communicating with R.{Sir Henry Royce} and CJ. regarding the standardisation of these tyres, but, in the meantime, it occurs to me that the foregoing information may be useful.
