With reference to the attached. The fault which this customer complains of is not unknown to us but it is very rare.

We have consulted the Repair Dept. on this matter.

The unusual point with regard to this complaint is the fact that the trouble appears to be persistent. Our experience is that the trouble may only occur once or twice in years of running on the car.

If we could find a car and condition in which we could reproduce this trouble, we believe we might possibly be able to improve it. The problem is that we have a revolving brake drum and a fixed sheet-metal guard to prevent the mud and water getting on the brakes. The space between the revolving drum and the sheet-metal guard is kept as close as possible. One can easily imagine that running over a gritty road there will always be the chance of a piece of grit becoming wedged.

This fault has been considered in connection with the 20 HP. brake drum and we believe it is better. So far we have not had a case of it occurring. There is a risk, however, that if a piece of grit did become wedged on the 20 HP. it would be very difficult to get clear.

We recommend that we first of all examine the drums and shields on this customers car and see that they are standard.
