-2- Messrs. Rolls-Royce Ltd., 9th February, 1933. On the first thermostat we filled, the charge permitted a slight movement without load at 70°C. We then altered the charge for the other five and they commenced to open between 72° and 73°C. At the other end of the test which is the one under load, we found that all of these responded absolutely to the load given us of 27½ lbs. at 90°C. and as we concluded that this was more important than the unloaded test we sent the thermostats forward to you. There is just one other possibility which occurs to us with regard to the test and that is, that we tested these with water up to the ring inside the thermostat because this is how they will be in actual working conditions. It occurs to us that possibly you are testing them with the thermostatic bellows completely submerged, which, of course, would alter the operating point. We shall be glad to know if you have had an opportunity of testing the whole of these six thermostats and what the results obtained were. At your service for any further information and trusting to be favoured with your esteemed order. We are, Yours faithfully, CROSBY VALVE & ENGINEERING CO.LTD., J. {Mr Johnson W.M.} Lucas. Manager.
