TELEPHONE—ELMBRIDGE 3157 TELEGRAMS—ELMBRIDGE 3157 ALTA CAR & ENGINEERING CO. LTD. Directors— G.{Mr Griffiths - Chief Accountant / Mr Gnapp} TAYLOR L. TAYLOR May 25th, 1934. FULLER'S WAY, KINGSTON BYE-PASS, SURBITON. Your Ref. D/BP/AHH137GC. Our Ref. GT.LV. Messrs. Rolls-Royce, Ltd., Derby. Dear Sirs, For the attention of Mr. Robottom. ========================== We thank you very much indeed for your letter of the 16th inst. and the careful way in which you have gone into our query, it is hard to say definitely about lubrication but as far as we know there was no failure, the oil is fed to each end of the shaft by means of a 5/16" square annulus in the main bearing and a 5/16" hole through the shaft reduced to 1/8" at the big ends, we rather suspect ourselves that we are getting near to the load limit on this size bearing. We have had eight rods lined with .015 white metal and fitted at .001" clearance, and we are going to try these as if they go it is not very serious whereas a seized R.R.56 rod is, we will carry out further tests then on R.R.56. Thanking you for the interest shown, Yours faithfully, FOR AND ON BEHALF OF ALTA CAR & ENG. CO. LTD. G.{Mr Griffiths - Chief Accountant / Mr Gnapp} Taylor. DIRECTORS.
