RE 40/50 & 20 HP. DYNAMO BRUSH CLEARANCES.
X5660
X5660

The clearances of the dynamo brushes in their holders, e.g. :-

An absolute minimum of .005" for the 20 HP.
" " " " .002" " " 40/50 HP..

we are look upon as of great importance in ensuring the proper functioning of these machines, and particularly in preventing a machine from attaining a condition of excessive output.

It should be possible on any machine in any condition readily to insert a .005" or .002" feeler, respectively, between each brush holder and the leading face of its corresponding brush, i.e. the face facing the approaching commutator. This applies equally to all brushes - positive, negative and control.

The side clearances of the brushes in their holders should also be at least .001" in all cases.
