BONNET AND FITTINGS. X. 8260.

We send herewith N.sch.1848 shewing the bonnet and fittings for EAC.11.

The plates are of the same gauge aluminium as the 40/50 HP. We call special attention to the spacing of the hinge sectors, which is fully set out on the drawing. We have done this in order to overcome the present difficulty of gaping at the ends. We would like Derby to experiment with the use of countersunk headed rivets throughout, as the present snap heads make the painting and varnishing very much more difficult. Spring steel wearing strips .072" thick have been fitted and thus on the side channels should have about 1/8" of camber inwards when riveted to the side plate, so as to ensure that the bonnet rests on the ferodo during the whole of the length, thus preventing the rattles which we get at present. These wearing strips will also prevent the ferodo eating into the bonnet.

With regard to the question of ventilating the bonnet we have shewn two standard shutters, this providing us with a bonnet that we can use to begin with. The final design will depend upon experimental reports on work now in progress. It will be appreciated that the bonnet fitted to the model car will be painted. When the body is removed and placed on a chassis the same bonnet will be used.
